i am 21 weeks pregnant and 2 weeks ago i had a consultant appointment, i had to give a urine sample, the nurse then asked me to repeat the sample as there were traces of sugar and blood in my urine, i did this and they sent it off, 6 days later it came back clear BUT since giving the sample i have now got a discharge (sorry!) but no irritation, and i am worried i have an infection that wasnt detected as that was not my first sample, i had been to the loo countless times.

I am giving another sample next week, but my question is, can a UTI be dangerous if its left untreated? i have a high risk pregnancy anyway and am worried enough, please help!

maybe you should ring the anti-natal ward (if that is what they are still called lol) and ask to speak to the duty sister (if that is what they still have lol) as you are concerned and it might mean you get agitated about it, which is probably worse for you than the acyual potential infection, ;) I know I never worried about making a call way back when I was pregnant.

i rang the labour ward and spoke to the midwife and she said that they wouldnt test me again just yet as my results were clear! my hospital are not too good, but my gp has agreed to test me, but my appointment is next week and he can get the results in a coule of days, but still long enough for me to panic! i am ok and resting but the underlying worry is still there, but then with my history it will be til bubs is here! thanks dot

Sorry boob this question is very personal and I will understand if you dont answer, but where is the discharge coming from? It is very unusual to have discharge from the urethra during a UTI. If it is a vaginal discharge then it will not be related. It is highly unlikely that the infection has been missed due to the dipstick sample and lab sample both being negative, but obviously possible that it has developed since.

Do as Dot says, the worry is what will be worse for you. Im sure it will all be fine. xxxxx Alison

hi boobesque, I know it is easy for me to say,but try not to be over anxious,if they thought for one moment there was something wrong they would call you in,so try to relax a little I don't think being on here at the moment is helping, certainly don't let certain people on here wind you up, take care, you are a special lady, Ray xx

i think its vaginal ali, but i cant see anyomre lol, its just that they thought my first was early cos of an infection (we now kknow different) so now that is something in my head, well my gp is excellent, so i shall relax (yeah right!)and see what he says, thanks guys!

Just to add to the other posts, as increase in vaginal discharge is quite common in pregnancy even as early as 21 weeks If it doesnt smell bad (sorry if that was TMI) then its more often than not fine. Speak to your GP or midwife if concerned though please.

Urinary infection can lead to infecting the kidneys

UTI is not dangerous and is very comon in late pregnancy. Flush out as many bacteria as you can by drinking loads of water. This will make you feel better and may cure a mild infection. (obviously speak to your GP tomorrow too).
hi, if you have a UTI try not to worry go to yr GPand tell them what is happening and if it is UTI they will give you antibiotics,it is not armfull to the baby just you having to wee all the time also you might be weeing alot cos the baby pushers on your bladder also you could have thrush which alot of pregnant women get which can also be treated.i am pregnant also and weeing alot but my baby is pushing on my bladder and i have trush which is being treated and i also have discharge which is natural in pregnant women,if your discharge is thick and cottage cheese looking then it will be thrush.like i say dont worry go to the doctors and tell your gp and he will sort you out. good luck.
hey boobs long time no 'see' congrats on the baby btw :)

I too am high risk during pregnancy & suffered from numerous water infections during my last pregnancy which the midwife told me was 'just one of those things' she did however advice me to drink plenty of cranberry juice as its meant to be good for 'flushing you out'. She also told me that a simple thing like being hungry when you provide your sample can alter the result.

The only time I was at risk from a UTI was when I very foolishly put off going to the doctor because my eldest son had chicken pox, after a few days I knew I had to see my gp as I was in terrible pain :( On the way to the doctors I couldn't even bare it when the taxi went over the speed bumps no matter how slowly he drove.(I promise you I'm not scare mongering, just bare with me lol) Once the doctor examined me he wanted to send me to hospital but I explained that would be difficult as I had no-one to look after my other son,so he prescripted me amoxycillin(sp?) & asked me to return the next morning (this was at 6.30pm) when I went back I was 99% better after only taking 3 tablets. But please remember this was an extreme situation but was still easily resolved :)

I know I'm probably talking to a wall when I say try to relax but you really should I am extremly high risk & had to be monitored fortnighly so kinda know what your going through but pregnancy is such a wonderful thing so try & enjoy it,the sleepless nights will come soon enough ;) lol xx
