Hi, my daughter is 5.5 mths pregnant, and her friends daughter has just had chicken pox, i know it can be dangerous if my daughter should catch it while pregnant but she has already had it a few years ago, but my question is, if she should go round there is there any chance of maybe her friend getting shingles from her daughters chicken pox and my daughter catching shingles off of her, sounds confusing but i hope you know what im getting at, any help please. Thankyou.
No, you don't catch shingles, from chickenpox (but you can develop chickenpox, if you've never had it, by being in contact with someone who has shingles)
All the same, I'd play safe & stay away until it's all clear. :o)
Dont risk anything. My two young uns (both under 5) have recently had it and we were in contact with a heavily pregnant friend. Regardless of whether your daughter has had it, get it all checked out professionally as chicken pox is most dangerous in the later stages of pregnancy (unlike german measles etc where its the crucial first months)
I don't remember exactly the course of action but something involving a blood test to chesk for antibodies was involved to ensure baby was out of harms way
Please contact your g.p regardless cos unless otherwise stated, none of us on here are docs. xx
Hi I was 6 months pregnant when both my children caught chicken pox. I phoned the doctor up to tell him and he said that because I had it when I was a child I would be ok. The only time to worry is if you have not had it then you should stay away as you could possibly get shingles.
