Botox as pain relief
4 Answers
Has anyone here ever had a botox injection for pain relief?
I was told by my pain doctor yesterday that I have to have a botox injection in the muscle near my shoulder blade to hopefully prevent muscle spasm caused by damaged nerves after a lung operation I had 3 years ago.I've never heard of botox being used for this and wondered if any of you here have had it done and if so did it work?were there any side effects? and how long does it provide pain relief for?
Thanks in advance for any info/advice.

It is also used for bladder incontinence..... :)
Botox is a potent nerve toxin and acts by blocking the nerve signalling which causes muscle stiffness and spasms.
Botox has also been successfully used to treat some forms of eye muscle problems and spasms. Similarly there is some evidence for a beneficial effect on spasticity.
The only advice I can say is do it. Anything that relieves muscle pain is worth a go, and wtf didn't he/she give you more info? lol

Thanks for your answer beryllium.I will have a good look at the website in a moment. The doc didn't have time to give me more info because he was too busy sending me off for an ECG as I had pain that was radiating down my left arm.He just said it would paralyse the muscle preventing spasms and that I might feel a bit flu like for a few days afterwards. I'd rather hear from patients than doctors anyway as the doc only knows the theory, the patients are the experts really.lol
Botox can most certainly be used for pain relief. The FDA has recently approved Botox treatment for migraines. I would be a little weary on the botox not taking away all your pain. do some research on the net. There may be other alternatives . I recently had botox done at http://www.taac.co.za/ and was very happy with the results.
Botox, often associated with cosmetic procedures, can also be used for pain relief. In Vaughan, Lumiskins offers Botox treatments as a non-surgical option to alleviate chronic pain. Learn more at https:/ /lumisk ins.ca/ botox-t reatmen t-in-va ughan/.
