Pelvic Girdle Pain
Following on from warpigs thread, and as there seems to be a few of us on here suffering with pelvic girdle pain, I thought I would post on here the list given to me by the physiotherapist to help take more care whilst having this, seeing as some of you cant get to your midwives yet.
Do rest as much as possible.
Dont stand for too long,
Do keep your knees together when you get in and out of bed.
Do take small steps when walking.
Dont do any movement which increases your pain.
Do take stairs one at a time.
Do shower instead of bath if possible.
Do get into a car carefully; sit on the seat first then take both legs in together.
Do use heat or ice as needed.
Do see your midwife for a suitable pelvic support.
Also with that I was given a similar list to look after my back:
Stand tall, tuck your bottom under and your tummy in.
Avoid twisting movements when hoovering or doing housework.
Lift carefully, bend your kness and keep your back straight every time you bend down.
Make sure your work tops and ironing boards are the right height for you.
Get up from lying by rolling onto your side and pushing yourself up.
Sit well back in your chair and use only a very small support in the small of the back.
I know the majority of these are obvious, but hopefully they will be of some help to you all :)

In the it you wrote about care for your back, I read work tops as in tops that you wear to work and it took me ages to sit here and work out what you meant! LMAO
I think I am going to ring my midwife / GP if my bum pain hasn't subsided by the end of the day as it has been getting increasingly worse since Monday and my coccyx is now really, really, really painful when I go to stand up from sitting. Touch wood, it's not too bad at the moment, but then it's not even 8am yet so maybe I shouldn't count my chickens just yet :-) X

Im now off to cut a huge hole along the floor by worktops as they are possibly too low for me.........................pmsl how the heck can you ensure worktops arent wrong height? buy a new kitchen?? wise words from medical profession, if only it was practical.

Thank you psychick, I have printed that off. I put a pillow between my legs the last two nights and it works, don't know how or why, but it works. The pain is still there in the mornings but definitely not as bad as it was.
Just sitting here laughing to myself thinking 'what with all the moans and groans we have, why do women do it a second time!' but I suspect that went the baby is sitting happily in your lap everything is forgotten!

Red, I didnt bother putting the rest of that one because it says to sit down if theyre too low!! I really hope they were referring to doing the ironing sitting down lol Of course, if your kitchen tops are too low, great excuse to let someone else do dinner?
Hope youre feeling better today warpig. I think the pillow thing works because its takes some of the strain from your pelvic area. Ive gone to using two pillows now as I found it to be even better.
Right, Im off to eat my cream cake and have a rest before work. Got my daughters school play this afternoon and we are all off for the 4d scan this evening so a busy day for me!

Hope you're coping with the pain. I had it during my pregnancy and it was really horrible. Kind of planning a second, but memories of not being able to turn over in bed/get in a car/onto public transport/walk are a bit factor!
Another tip that worked for me was sleeping on something shiny/slippery as it helps you to turn over somehow. Also, sounds obvious, but limit how much you have to walk, I used to do this even around the house. ie. I used to think 'if I'm going in the kitchen I need to make sure that I get a cup of tea and the phone and while I'm there I should also go to the bathroom (which is next door to the kitchen)'. Then I could walk as little as possible.
The suport belt didn't really do much for me but I know it does for some people.
Good luck with your pregnancies, and it'll all be worth it in the end once you have your lovely babies!

Hi AniseedTwist, thanks for the extra tips, Im now trying to think of something slippery to sleep on as that sounds a good idea. Turning over in bed is my biggest nightmare! Sadly I cant really limit my walking yet, but will be able to after Wednesday once my daughter breaks up from school and I finish work.
I have to be honest, the thought of having this again is putting me off going for a third baby, along with the constant sickness Im still getting at nearly 30 weeks! But a friend of mine had this with one of hers and then went on to have two more without any pain, so you may be one of the lucky few who dont get it again :)

Yes, it was mine too, especially as it's a time when you really need sleep! Well some people say use silk sheets, but as we don't have them I used a big piece or sarong-type material which was quite slippery. I suppose you could maybe use a big dressing gown that's made of something shiny? Putting a pillow or two between my legs, as well as reducing the pain a little, also seemed to help with turning over.
The pillow seems to keep your hips aligned where they should be, rather than letting them slip into the painful positions they can now go into because of your loose ligaments.
Poor you having so much sickness too. I hope that wears off and you get at least a few weeks off! Thanks, it's reassuring to know that some people don't get the hip problems the second (or third) time round :)

I too use two pillows between my legs, fun and games turning over with them too! lol Ive got used to the sickness now and the anti sickness from the docs helps alot but I still cant ever see me willingly going through this again!
