Baby's position in womb
Hello ladies.
My daughter is now 37 weeks pregnant and she is getting quite nervous. :-)
After a midwife visit today she said she has been told the baby is facing the wrong way and she has to spend as much time as possible on all fours to try and make him turn,he is head down but apparently his back is facing the wrong way??? can anyone enlighten me as to why this would be a problem?
TIA

The midwife is right, getting on all fours could cause the baby to turn. The baby should deliver fine, it may be longer and slighter greater risk of tearing. My eldest didnt turn and I was in labour from the friday night to the sunday evening but he was perfectly healthy. Tell your daughter to get a tens machine booked just incase the baby remains in this position for contractions that are felt in your back not your tummy this is invaluable pain relief.
head down with babys back against mums front is the ideal presentation.
Back to back, as GS says, means the contractions are felt in the back and this can take longer and be more painful.
when your daughter isnt on all fours then perhaps get her to sit (if she hasnt got any complications with pelvis) astride a dining chair facing the back. This can help baby turn as well.
Bless her for getting nervous, theres not really a lot she can do now except wait and see how it all goes, but i do know how she feels :)

The midwife told her the baby is in "face to pubes" position, good term I thought!!! haha.
As my daughter is only 18 and this is her first baby she has no idea what to expect really, she keeps asking me if she'll know when she is in labour.
I hope she manages to get him to turn as i'd hate for her to have more pain than is necessary(especially as i'm going to be there with her)
Thanks for the advice ladies,i'll suggest to her that she sits backwards on the chair redcrx.

I was only 20 daffy so not a lot older. It's not that bad, longer though and if she gets the chance to have an epidural after struggling for hours she should take it.
Lol, I Was exactly the same didn't know if I would know I was in labour...turns out I had no idea as I just though oh my god my back hurts. So she should look out for that.

I had back labour with my first child too,I had pre eclampsia which developed into full eclampsia so the actual delivery is a bit of a blur as they had me drugged up on valium and made me have an epidural to lower my BP.
My second child(the one who is now preggers) was born within 30 minutes of reaching the labour ward, two pushes and she was out,she was face upwards.

i wonder if I'll know when my labour starts properly as i was eventuall induced by having my waters broken last time. there are some contraction timers on the net that can help and also i think that contractions wont subside if you get up and move about (or lie down if you were active when pains started).
I agree with the TENS hire, worth getting for those early stages at home, it gives you something to focus on.

Hiya daffy- wow, that time went quick didn't it? Only a few weeks to go for her- wish her luck from me :-)
Mini Boo was laid back to back with me and I was also told to spend as much time as possible on all fours. Luckily thuogh she turned round and giving birth was a doddle, i'm sure your daughters baby will also turn.
