periods after birth

my baby is ten weeks old and i am breastfeeding him,i haven't yet had a period,is this normal?also is there less chance of pregnancy if you're breastfeeding,thanks.

I breastfed my son for 8 months and only got my period back when i dropped to two feeds a day when he was about 6 or 7 months. I dont think you can get pregnant if you dont have periods but you will not know when you start ovulating again so there is a chance

your period may arrive at any time, breastfeeding doesnt mean it wont come back til you stop feeding necessarily.

Plus you could still fall pregnant, you may not get a period if you fall the first time you ovulate so dont rely on it as a method of contraception, many mums have fallen thinking they cant because of feeding.

For goodness sake don't let anyone persuade you that breastfeeding is some form of contraception! When I had my daughter 35 years ago and enquired about contraception my GP said that since I was breastfeeding it was unlikely I would conceive as he was unwilling to prescribe the pill which was still relatively new up here. 13 months later my son was born.............!

oh my god!!i had heard different things and internet was giving me different advice,dont worry im on the mini pill,theres no chance id risk it,god i dont know how id have coped,bet you wouldnt change it now though!thanks for your answers everyone!x
