ivf info
1 Answers
Hi all
Firstly a little bit of back ground. I was diagnosed as being infertile about 3 years ago. It took nearly a year for my name to go on the ivf list at my local hospital due to clinic cancellations etc but when reviewed by the consultant my partner, and myself decided to go on the waiting list. I was informed that it would take 2-3 years before I would receive treatment.
A friend who lives in a different area has had confirmed to her that she has fertility problems and is on the list. She was contacted a few weeks ago to let her know the start date of her treatment. Because she had been on the list for just less than a year I decided to contact my local hospital and ask how far on the list I was.
It turn's out that I should have started treatment a year ago and I had simply been missed off the list.
Now, since meeting the consultant I have split up with my original partner of 5 years but I have been with my current partner over a year now
Finally the question
Does the consultant have the right to refuse me treatment because I am with a different partner?
Does the consultant have the right to refuse me treatment if my current partner has mental health issues?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me. I feel so desperate that the opportunity is going to be taken from me again to become a mum.

For example, in my area if either partner have had a child before, or have adopted children they are automatically ineligible. Also, we have a strict age criteria here and if you fall outside then no go im afraid. also if your BMI is above 30 you cant get it. Ivf is one of those treatments that is rationed by the health service and if one of you dosent fall in their (strict) criteria then you are barred from having the treatment. Each PCT has different criteria so its impossible to answer your questions
