Whatever you do decide, do NOT just give the poor dog away. Take her to a reputable rescue centre to get her re-homed. Unless of course you have good friends that you trust to take good care of her.
Of course dogs and babies mix, it is up to you to keep up the hygiene.
So many people have dogs until they start to have children then out goes the poor dog. You obviously care about her, but you must do what is right for her. There is no reason why the dog cannot carry on perfectly well around a child.
But you are the one that has to take all the responsibliity. If you cannot cope with the clean ups then let her go to someone who can.
Children are far more demanding than dogs and you could have a situation where the poor dog is no longer part of the family. In that case, you must let her go.
Personally, if I had to choose,I would keep the dog and have the kid adopted. But that is me.

Hi Tatu - I agree its not an ideal situation - a lot of hard work for you. How old is your dog? I wonder if its worth posting on animals topic to get to the bottom of why your dog still poops in the house? If its at the back door she is obviously almost making it - maybe she's just making enough fuss for you to notice? Our puppy is now 9 months old and (fingers crossed) we only now get the odd excited wee indoors - my boy is 2 and a half - not sure I could cope with both incontinent pet and baby!! Good luck - am sure you will crack it. xx
Clean up after the dog using biological washing liquid (eg Ariel Liquid).
Maybe the dog's routine has been a lesser priority because of the new baby. The fact that he is pooing at the back door seems to indicate that he is trying to go outside rather than messing in the house. Perhaps you just need to reinstate his routine.

Children who grow up with animals have a better immune system and are far less likely to suffer from allergies. As for why your dog is doing the toilet at the door it could be to do with the baby - when cats do it, it's a behavioural thing, their territory has been encroached on and they are reaffirming it as theirs so it could be that, or it could just be that she's not quite trained yet. Try the training pads you get and gradually move them outside - she should have it sorted by the time your baby is old enough to be down on the floor. Good luck!
