bacon/sausages in hand luggage on planes

can I now carry bacon /sausage/cheese in hand luggage ( or for that matter hold luggage) on planes to Spain ? or is the EU foot& mouth restriction still in force. ?

the question was not can I buy in Spain, it was about whether I was permitted to take it (if you have been to you Spain recently, you would know that what they call bacon/sausages /cheese bears no relation to anything produced in UK) I just want to take some out to family who live there

I found this on the internet. I brought cheese back from France yesterday in my suitcase, not sure you'd get away with it in hand luggage

Owing to the risk of importing disease into the European Union, it is forbidden to bring meat, meat products, milk and dairy products into the EU, with the exception of:

� Powdered milk and food for infants, and special food required for medical reasons provided that the product does not require refrigeration before opening and it is a commercial brand product with the packaging still intact.
� Personal packages containing meat, meat products, milk and dairy products through specifically-designated EU entry points, provided they have obtained the necessary documentation from the official veterinary services of the country of origin. The goods must be declared and the corresponding documentation must be presented on arrival at the EU border control for veterinary control.
� In all other cases these products must be handed over when crossing EU borders to be destroyed.

Hi all, Have finally managed to speak to 'airport security' at Bournemouth, an been given the all clear on all foodstuffs, just have to say sausages not 'bangers' !!! Thanks for the chats.

CAJ!'s answer is irrelevant, since it relates to entering the EU. If you're in the UK, you're already in the EU and you're free to move all foodstuffs across national borders unless temporary restrictions (such as those which used to relate to BSE) apply.

There are currently no such restrictions, so the information provided by Bournemouth Airport is correct. However, if their security staff are being particularly strict, your sarnies shouldn't contain any mayonnaise or ketchup, since that would breach the security rules on 'liquids'.

Iceland have branches in most large Spanish towns with a British ex-pat population. They sell exactly the same stuff as the UK branches.
I have been to lots of different areas in Spain and can always find British foodstuffs, if I want it.

Thanks both, Will have a look in the large towns. My son lives on his 'farm' outside Moratalla, where the the shops are few. Off there this afternoon , hope it's sunny!!
