Child pillion passenger.....
Good evening
Ive been looking into the legality of carrying my daughter on my lambretta.....she is 8 years old and......
I know this may sound silly but id like to carry her in front of me as we both feel safer like that......
I cannot find any other law other than the one that says she has to be able to touch the pegs or on my case the footboards.....
thanks

If your daughter was infront of you she would obstruct your forward vision and also your access to the brake peddle. Also she would suffer additional injuries in the event of an accident by being sandwiched between yourself and the object you collide with. Would you drive a car with her on your lap?.
As a motorcyclist, I thought the law was as gonzo says but the law is irrelevant here. Having her in front is incredibly dangerous especially for her. you will be sitting further back that is safe therefore your lower back will start ache very quickly taking your mind off the road, not to mention the unfamilair riding position and visibility issues. If you don't believe me try it with a sack of spuds first and see how you go. If you do have even a slow crash you will crush her against the bars. There is no up side to this. The best way is to have her hold you at the waist from the back. Put a belt around you on the outside as something for her to grab. Believe me kids are like limpets, both my boys have ridden pillion when they where younger using this method.
