stomach cramps - caused by MSG?
4 Answers
I have suffered with really bad stomach pain after eating, for about 16 years. It's not all the time, but sometimes is incredibly painful. As bad as a labour contraction!
I have put it down to various things over the years: wheat; dairy; IBS etc.
It has never been specific enough to pinpoint though.
Tonight we had a chinese takeaway and i got the most excrutiating cramps! My husband said it might be an allergy to MSG. Thinking about it, i only get the cramps when I've eaten out (well, mostly)
My questions are:
Is MSG only used in Chinese food, or is it used in other dishes?
and
Would an allergy to it cause these cramps?

I assume that you have seen a Gastro-Enterologist and have had the routine investigations.
Personally, I am not a fan of Food Allergy diagnosis, but this is a personal view.
I hope this answers your 2 questions.

cris...allergies. In my opinion there is only scientific evidence for only two foods that cause allergies......peanuts and gluten. I may be in the minority here, but it is my belief.
I would certainly seek the advice of a GastroEnterologist in an effort to get to the bottom of your problems as IBS is a strong possibility.
