Lap and dye

Has anyone had this? Just been told by the doc this morning that he'll send me for blood tests and then he talked about lap and dye procedure too. I had no idea it involved day surgery and now I'm worried! Does anyone know if I have to have it regardless of the blood test results? Any advice welcomed.

My wife had it. It is a surgical procedure and done under general anaesthetic. I dropped her at the hospital at 8:30am and picked her up again in the afternoon. It's not a major thing, just slightly uncomfortable I think. The point is to check if a path exists between ovaries and womb. I expect the blood tests are to see if there are any obvious problems there so I unless they show something glaringly obvious it's not going to change the need for a laparoscopy. I presume this is because you've had trouble conceiving? That's certainly why my wife had it.

If it's any help, three years down the line we now have two bouncing healthy baby boys (separate pregnancies, not twins).

I had this many years ago but it wasn't a day case then. It's no problem except you can feel uncomfortable for a few days as they inflate the cavity with some sort of gas (CO2?) so that they can get to the areas better (from memory)
As Skyline says initially they said I had blocked tubes, but they must have unblocked as I have two sons, one 24, one 27! :o)

I suppose it depends what the blood test is for and what they expect it to show? But if you are having a lap and dye to check if your tubes are clear then no blood test will show this.

I have had this done twice (once a straight lap - diagnosed endometriosis and one lap and dye after being diagnosed with PCOS and I am having trouble conceiving). The procedure itself is not too bad. You will be left with a small incision in your belly button, one a bit to the side and one further down (well I had 3 in both of mine but they treated endo at the same time so you might just have two). You might be in a bit of discomfort for a few days after but just take it easy and you'll be fine. Yogasun mentioned the gas they inflate you with - the worst part of the whole thing for me is when you first sit up after, the leftover gas rises to your shoulders which can be very painful but only lasts a wee while.

Thanks so much all, have now been booked in for this after blood tests showed hormone levels all OK (well, prolactin was originally riased but has gone down since and wasn't significantly high).
