Update - Brown discharge - 5 weeks Preg
So I went to the hospital today and they carried out a scan (both external and internal). They couldn't see anything but they said it could be too early and therefore not detected on the ultrasound. They worked me out to be 5 weeks, 4 days according to period dates. Is this uncommon to not detect at this time? I have read elsehwere that most people at least see a sac? I have to go back in 2 weeks so keeping everything crossed!

I had been late, did a pregnancy test and it was positive though the next day i started to bleed so assumed this could be implantation bleeding or a miscarriage. Speaking to the doctor he suggested i go to early pregnancy unit at hospital to have scan and see what they could see. I had my appointment last Tuesday and I was exactly 5 weeks and 4 days but neither the ultrasound or internal could see anything. They did another pregnancy test and it was negative even though i had done 2 tests a week before and third one 3 days before my appointment, it was now negative. The hospital confirmed that I had probably miss-carried but had it not be for doing a test quite early i wouldnt have known. I hope everything works out ok for you but i guess the point of my post was to ask whether the hospital offered to do another pregnancy test?
Hi - thanks for your responses. In answer to your question Chasingcars, they did a preg test this morning before I had the ultrasound scan. She said it was a 'light' line but definately a line there so this was acceptable - she said this is possible if not far gone. I wouldn't say I've had bleeding, more brown discharge - I'm not sure if this is different or one in the same really. It's all so horrible being unknown - I hate waiting!
I know, i felt the same waiting for my appotinment not knowing either way what was happening. Let us know how you get on. The odd thing is when i did another test when I got home, it still showed positive too but i understand that when you miscarry it can take some time for the prgenancy hormones to leave your body and I guess that was what had happened to me. Wishing you lots of luck for the next couple of weeks - i am sure it will be fine and then you can relax.
Thanks Chasingcars. I meant to say previously I'm sorry to note your loss. I'll keep you posted. I've got to go back on Wed for another blood test so they can compare the preg hormone with that taken today. I suppose if it's not increased as they would like then something's up. I am hopeful it is purely because I had sex on Sat and this has just upset my cervix a bit but that may be being too optimistic!!!
I had this bleeding too but was a few weeks further on at the time so it did show. I wouldn't necessarily worry about this hun as so early on it's very difficult to find anything to see. I was told the bleeding was probably what would have been a period, yours could be too. You could always do a first response test, they are usually pretty strong at detecting early pregnancy if you can't wait to find out. Good luck.xxx
The worst thing about advances in pregnancy testing is because we know so early we now know we have early miscarriages and are not able to put it down to late or missed periods....so we have all the upset of knowing what has happened...when a generation or more ago this would not be the case... its incredibly common for a first pregnancy to fail early...and we will probably to hear good news from you again within the next 6 months everything crossed
