I'm an only child and I tend to fit the stereotype of above average intelligence, with good planning and organisational abilities, but with abysmal social skills.
As a child I always wanted a little brother but, if I'm honest, it wasn't as a playmate or as someone to love. I simply wanted someone to push around!
I have no children of my own but (through a relationship with a single mum many years ago) there's someone whom I regard as being like my own son. (He was 6 when I first got to know him. He's 35 now!). He's an only child and (since he's the closest thing to perfection that I've ever known) I'm not sure that I would have wanted him to have a sibling, because they simply couldn't be as wonderful as he is.

I'm at the reverse end. I'm the youngest of 7. When I was growing up it was a nightmare. 9 people (inc parents) all living in a four bedroom house, wanting to punch someone every morning was unavoidable. But now I'm an adult I wouldn't change a thing. We all get on really well and although it's rare to get all of us in the same room at once, it's great fun when we do. There is always someone to talk to when you need a shoulder or to borrow a tenner.
The bf and I were talking last night about how in the not too distant future we intend on starting our own family and th subject of how many kids came up. We both immediately said we wouldn't want just one. Maybe that's because he has a great relationship with his brother too but to me, being an only child would seem really weird.
