Im doing a friends family tree. Ive received a marriage certificate fro another Ancestry member but cannot understand it. The marriage is at Wrentham, Suffolk. BMD Ref Blything 4A 851 in Dec 1913
The groom is Frederick WM Cage ( which I know about ) but bride is Eliza King, spinster aged 29 (1884) but states father as Henry Smith. As she is unmarried I cannot underst
and why surname is different from father. Ive found an Eliza King birth on FBMD Sept 1884 in Blything which Im presuming to be her. I dont want to send for this birth cert unless I have to
The witnesses on the marriage cert is a David King and Charles Bacon. Ive tried on every census to find any of these names in that area but having no luck at all.
Any help appreciated

Here are all the David King's in Suffolk on the 1911:
HOUSEHOLD KING DAVID M 1883 28 Bury St Edmunds Suffolk
HOUSEHOLD KING DAVID M 1854 57 Ipswich Suffolk
HOUSEHOLD KING DAVID M 1844 67 Blything Suffolk
HOUSEHOLD KING DAVID M 1891 20 Blything Suffolk

HOUSEHOLD KING DAVID HENRY M 1854 57 Ipswich Suffolk
HOUSEHOLD KING DAVID HUGH M 1885 26 Woodbridge Suffolk

If you can say which one it's likely to be, I can view the record and see if Henry Smith or Eliza are present ... but need to be sure which one as am running out of 1911 census credits!!!
Will give you same list for Charles Bacon shortly, even if just to rule out any connection between him and Eliza from a census point of view............

Thanks for your help. I dont know what age David King is. He could be a brother or uncle etc. I have checked the 1911 census for each David King, but not come up with anything.
Looking at the cert again, it could be Charles Bacon or even Dacon. Its very hard to transcribe.
Thanks for trying. I will see if I can connect any Kings up to Smiths in case your first theory is right

To bear out the location for Eliza King (IOW in 1911) I have found her on the 1901 census as a servant for Wm and Emma Demey at Fornham Road Bury St Edmunds. In 1891 she is with her parents Charles (1848) and Susan (1849) and their 7 other children at Fornham Road, Gt Barton (Bury St Edmunds) - and in 1901 this family is in the same place, but with Eliza missing. I have looked for a death of Charles King (leaving his wife free to remarry Henry Smith - but I have not found one as yet. And even if I did this would mean SUSAN KING marrying Henry Smith - and not the Emily Smith you have found .................. so no further forward really!! Arrgghh!!
I may not have the right person at all Craft - it's just a theory - ie Henry Smith may be listed as her father on the marraige certificate if he married Eliza's mother (hence the difference in surname) However, if you say her biological father (Charles) didn't die until 1930, it's unlikley her mother remarried Henry Smith (not sure divorce was common enough then??) Unless of course there is a possibility Henry Smith WAS actually her biological father and this was common knowledge by the time of her (Eliza's) marriage ..... I may be way off track with this one, it's just a possibility.
