Why when he says these things , are they called 'gaffes', it's just humour isn't it? If they were said by a stand-up comic (he would be excellent) they would just be seen as fun, the press can't accept that he is a very witty guy. I hope if I make 90, I have still got a similar sense of humour. Happy Birthday says I.

Phil's brill.
I agree with OP and my darling salla.
he has been doing it for decades..its all tongue in cheek..he even called my home city ghastly a few years ago..but i didnt take offence..he makes me laugh...
Having watched the programme with Fiona Bruce i thought he came off as worldly wise and funny, i am sure he has his bad days, but have 60 years of the press
on your case, then im positive we would all get a little tetchy.
I think he's great.

Happy birthday Phil :-)
i don;t know some of his so called "gaffe's" are incredibly rude and racist but he's the queens hubby so its ok

callling the Chinese slitty-eyed is just humour? I'm sure Bernard Manning would have agreed, but I don't see why you'd appoint Bernard Manning to a diplomatic job, which is what Philip has got.
Change the record...
That was to Doc....

Doc....life is quite simple........it is not what you say, but who you are.
doc's right tho if he said it he would be labelled a racist
I was thinking his gaffes like...

Don't know who and why but he asked a young lady what she did. She said she worked in a club....he replied 'what? a strip club'
As it happen, DOC, I do think phillip is Rude, bigoted and raciest and If he spoke to me the way he spoke to Fiona Bruce and others I would say that to his face and probably walk out the interview.
Obviously some people are over-sensitive and lacking a sense of humour, then.
