Why is it bad to change the locks if I am letting my husband inside every time he wants to..... Who's going to protect my property when I am not there? That's my only one concern... I know I can call the police if he steals something, but doing that it is not going give me my belongings back... That's why everyone have insurance, to avoid bad things to happen.

However, if he moved out sometime and didn't just go away for a couple of weeks he no longer lives in the property, it isn't his home anymore, and his rights have to be balanced against your human rights to privacy and a family life. Therefore if you change the locks and arrange access at a mutually convenient time there are unlikely to be any repercussions.
