Is it acceptable for a ten year old to be sharing parents bed?

Just had a work colleague tell me that her Son got into her bed last night because he couldn't get to sleep. Apparently he does it alot!

I have an 11 year old daughter and she has only ever slept with me, and only me, twice in her life. Both times because she was ill.

Is it just me that finds this a little disturbing?

I think it might just be you icemaiden, can't personally see anything whatsoever wrong with it, kids should be able to feel close to thier parents without the idea that sleeping in the same bed as someone ( particularly a relative) equals something untoward and sexual. That's as silly as nudity always being considered something sexual.

I guess, because I think by ten years old, he should stay in his own bed. I never slept in my parents bed.

i might think it a bit strange if parents were in nud, but even only then if the child was wanting cuddles.

But i dont see anything wrong with sharing space and sleeping or cuddling to comfort a child of that age.

We co slept all our kids when they were babies, seems unnatural to me not to tbh, and I really can't see anything wrng with a child coming into it's parent's bed for a cuddle if they are scared, can't sleep or poorly or sometimes just ebcause they want to.

I find it perfectly OK. At 11 my son would still climb into my bed for a cuddle. (At 13 he wouldn't even like his mates seeing him walking down the street with me).

I can see nothing wrong whatsoever with children sleeping with parents for comfort and cuddles.

None of my kids came into our bed at 10years old.......but there again, that was perhaps an old fashioned attitude to child development which is now quite different.

Now...yes.....no problem....what is wrong with a 10year old occasionally sleeping with his parents?

Stop him, resist his feelings and who knows what psychological trauma may develop later on?

I agree with Triggs. Nothing better to start the day. It was a regular occurence in our household. Also a great place to have in depth conversations with a child. A very secure and comforting place.

I can remember too climbing into bed with my grandparents when I stayed with them as a child. Grandad wore long combinations!!! Bless them - they had a lovely feather mattress.

I am getting all sad now!! :o(

3-year old perhaps but in my opinion 10 is a bit old to want to get in bed with mummy and daddy. Bet he doesn't let his friends know!

My daughter slept in my bed a lot from being a toddler - in fact every night for 2 yrs when I was a single parent. She's now 14 and absolutely will not sleep in my bed with me. They usually know when it's no longer for them and stop of their own accord. Personally, I have absolutely no problem with a child sharing a parents bed - you can never lavish enough cuddles on a a child in my opinion.

He used to take me to the television and radio studios when I was a child, along with his two daughters.
