If you are just starting take all your certificates along to the local library and book some computer time to access the most popular site ancestry.co.uk. All libraries hold a membership so you can access for free.
This site gives births, deaths, and marriages, between 1837 and 2005. It also has censuses from 1841 to 1901, certain parish records, and some military records too.
If you find you are enjoying it, then you may wish to subscribe to one or more sites so's you can work from home.
I am a genealogy fanatic so subscribe to ancestry.co.uk, thegenealogist, and find my past.
There is also a website familysearch.org which is free and useful for information pre-dating 1837.
