Has anybody ever been overpaid a widows occupational pension.

My husband passed away when he was 52 and according to the terms of the contract I will get a widows pension when he would have been 60.
The figures came through about the time I expected them.
The problems were:
They wanted to pay the pension when from me being 60. I am 2 months younger than him.
They forgot to include his AVC payments.
They missed off nearly 6 years of his service.
I telephoned the trustees and the first question they asked was how I knew this information.
The answer was we met when we were 12 so I know his exact length of service and I had all his letters in the house and offered to scan them to the e mail address on the letter.
They said they would investigate the matter and will ask me to scan the letters if necessary.
Three days later I received another letter with the correct figures and start payment date.
If I had not noticed I would have been underpaid by £1,050 per year and also lost 2 months widows pension.
His employer was a major bank.

I have only known pensions to be worked out scrupulously before confirmation. It is quite shameful that you could have been short-changed at all, let alone twice over. Your situation proves the need to keep meticulous records and check carefully what is offered, apart from being prepared to challenge. Well done.
