I paid 100 per month when i was working which was 120 when i got sky in my room. Mum and dad got my toiletries and whatever food i liked in with that so basically the rest of my wages were my own to keep.

Since I've been living with my dad (about 10 years) I've paid half of everything, including the rent. I do the cleaning and sort out all the housey stuff and he does the weekly shop and cooking.

I think it's a good deal, nothing much will really change when I move out soon, except I might have to learn to cook.

I used to pay my mum and dad £10 a month, but that was 1967 and I was on £28 a month.

I apid mum £30 to start with and then I moaned one day that a top I wanted to wear hadnt been washed. So she told me I had to do my own washing from then on so I reduced my rent to £25.00 lol

Well shoots since ive moved back 2years ago i dont pay cos i was a fulltime student....actually they pay my mobile bill and my gym.....

But when i was working i just transferred the money every payday! I really really didnt grudge it.

They said when im working they would just like me to tske over my mobile and gym and mabye just give them money now and again....i think i would treat them to chinese on a friday or something and flowers / wine or something xxxx

Whenever I have lived at home, my parents don't want me to pay anything. It's just the way they have always been. I clean the house and cook and I don't agree with them not making me pay rent etc, but they wont take it. I now have my own flat but I will be out of a job come April so I will need to rent out my flat and move back in with the parentals. They still won't take anything off me.

Apart from paying towards my keep I also gave my mum some 'wages' each month. This was her money to do with as she pleased. When I started work I would buy her a present each pay day. But it occured to me that since she was first pregnant and gave up work she had never had money in her own right. She was very much a f/t mum and housewife and worked hard at a time when there were few labour-saving devices in the working class home. She really enjoyed her 'wages' but always spent them wisely, bless her.

I do cook the dinner and the odd washing, the kitchen and my room..... I do realise i am lucky...

Ive always said the minute i get a FT job...i will save to send them away for their next big anniversary- vegas i think or a cruise. Theyve given me everything x

On my first job I got paid just over £200 a month and I used to give my mum £60 a month - she said it was that or £15 a week however I wanted to work it. I still felt really well off. It cost me £20 a month for my bus pass and the rest was mine to splurge. lol. This was in 1983 and I could have a good night out on a tenner.

I got a Saturday job in my last year at school and I made £13 a week. I gave 3 to my mum and kept 10. Once I left school I did YTS and agency work so the most I made was about £50 a week, but I still gave my mum at least 10. I left home at 19 and have only stayed one night in the house since then - I didn't pay anything for that though ;)

I had a Saturday job too - i used to buy my mum the odd gift but other than that I used it for my bus fares to school and the rest was pocket money. I never took a penny from my parents for pocket money after that so I guess it was like paying them. :o)... and actually a good half of the money went on bus fares so I didn't have a lot left.

Oh yes, usually around £150 a month and had to buy my own toiletries, clothes etc and own food and do all own laundry and cooking. Although usually I just went halfies with my sister on the food shopping and she did the cooking.

I never lived at home after graduating (got a full grant and my biological father topped it up £50 a month). When my children are grown up, if they still need/choose to live at home I would expect some token gesture and some help around the house, etc.
