Met with a friend last night and she was telling me that just as she was leaving the house her OH was bathing their 3 year old son when she heard him saying, 'Daddy, you slap Mummy's face when you come home from the pub and drink beer'. Then started sort of smacking his own face.
Now, her OH has certainly never smacked her in the face (don't think he'd be brave enough) or otherwise and neither of them smack the children. She has no idea where it's come from.
Aside from worrying that he might repeat that at nursery and people thinking something's going on at home, she's also wondering if maybe another child at nursery said something that he's picked up on. She's going to try and get it out of him if she can but I suggested when she drops him off there today she should tell the staff he'd said some odd things. Can you imagine if he said that to the wrong person, they'd think all sorts!
Not much you can do. He might have picked it from TV. You'd be surprised what they pick up. My son, when he was about 3, tried to snog his sister. The look on his face, the way he went in for the kiss...could only have been picked up from TV.
Nursery are used to this sort of thing as well. If there was something wrong at home it's usually reflected in the childs behaviour. Not just what they say.
Yeah, you're probably right. I know he's normally in bed by that sort of time but you never know what he might have seen that didn't occur to her. It was just the way it was so specific.
Kids do say the strangest things. I would guess this little boy isnt even up when daddy gets in from the pub so couldnt possibly see anything like this.
When JtH, jnr was about 5 he was being irritating as we went round town. I'd had enough and spun around to tell him off........at which point he scuttled backwards, cowering, crying out "No, Mummy!! Don't kick me......AGAIN!".
Needless to say, I'd never raised a hand, let alone a foot to him before. :o(
