Public displays of affection on Facebook etc

Just looked at Facebook and two friends (a couple who live together) were posting about how they are looking forward to their holiday, how they love each other, etc, etc. Then another friend posted, reminding them that they'd be going home to each other later today and to keep the slushy stuff until then rather than making it public. They were both a bit offended to say the least.

I must admit, it made me want to barf, but am I just being a grumpy old bat? Does anyone else find this sort of thing nauseating on a public forum? Answers from AB couples especially welcome - do you ever find yourselves doing this?

It is quite baffling when couples write all over eachothers FB walls saying how much they love each other when they could just drop the other one a text! It's worse when they're sat on the same sofa doing! People are weird though...
I don't why anyone posts that sort of stuff and have never done so myself.

It's a form of showing off, and usually by couples who have rocky relationships.
PDA

... formerly a "Personal Digital Assistant"

... now a "Public Display of Affection"

We don't do "public forum" PDAs, but I'd be embarrassed if anyone saw our text messages!!
It's not only on Facebook, but on AB too..............how much they LOVE each other.........how DEVOTED to each other they are......

Beats me why the whole world needs to know.
Baffles me...

I have one friend who has a baby, she occasionally praises her OH. They are young (19) and he's been a fantastic father. In the age of JK...I don't blame her for letting us all know how brilliant he is...

The rest, just nonsense...If they chat too much, I delete them.

Oh good, not just me then. So I can throw up with a clear conscience.
Damn, I forgot about JK. I suppose I've missed it now.
My niece has a habit of telling all her FB friends how much in love she is with her boyfriend, it's sickly sweet enough to make you want to puke sometimes.
I'm a cynical, miserable old bat.

Whenever I read the effusive crap I just think thou doth protest too much.....
as stated above, CB has had similar posts. some things should be kept of social networking sites, IMO
I agree Kiki, my daughter is a culprit unfortunately. For that reason, I very rarely go on FB now and have disabled it.

I should add that the couple are in their 50s, so old enough to know better. I can kind of understand it in teenagers, but 50-somethings? Bleuch!
isn't that what FB is for, living your life in public? I don't bother, but if I did I'd be a bit startled too if a friend came on and told me to shut up.

I must admit I do tend to hide them from my news feed.
I don't mind it to an extent. If it's just the odd thing every now and then I think it can be sweet but there are some couples who seem to not be able to function properly day to day without some sort of public outpouring of barf inducing love quotes every five minutes and it's the ones that go into detail about what will happen when they see each other next that make me want to throw the laptop from a tall building.

But then I'm single so I'm probably just bitter and jealous.
One person I know makes constant references to her beautiful/talented/clever daughter, she seems to forget she actually has two daughters :-(

Eccles - ouch!!! That really is bad!
I find the people who constantly go on about ex's more annoying, though I do just hide them from the news feed.
