I was in such a good mood and am now so blooming stressed.
Second oldest son(18yr old who has the new baby) has just called me. I just knew he wanted something as he was rambling. So anyway said I needed to go as had to catch the post and he said " ummm, I was wondering will you be guarantor on a loan I need to take out?" What bloomin loan was my reply. Seems he wants to borrow £500 from a company as he needs new car tyres etc- he has emailed me the link to them but needs a guarantor in case he doesnt pay. Have been put totally on the spot and said I would think about it, but since then in last 5 mins he has txt and said they need my card details incase he doesnt pay, which he says he will. Am fed up on being put in these situations and just know he will make me feel awful if I say no. God the older they get the harder it is!!

Smow, he can get WTC, his hours might be the sticking point though. 25 and over is if you don't have kids.

Smow, if he has children he is entitled to WTC from the age of 16. It's only if you don't have children you have to be 25. I think he has mis-read that.

oops sorry rocky!
Tell him to sell the car, Smow.

aaah, that explains it - I was looking for my daughter who is 23 and doesnt have kids
My daughter is under 25 with one child and gets child tax credits and working tax credits. I think the over 25 rule is for single people with no children.
Go to HMRC website and find the tax credit calculator. It asks a series of questions and determines if you should claim tax credits and if so estimates what you could be entitled to.
I would refuse if for no other reason that (from your link) I would not pay, nor allow any of my family to pay over £600 for nothing apart from the privilege of borrowing £400. Clearly loan sharks don't always just appear in the guise of the one shown recently in Corrie. If he really must have the money then it would be cheaper all round if you were to advance it, if you are able to do so.

Just an update - told him I would not do it, but if he gave me a breakdown about what he actually needed I would lend him the money as and when he needed it. He txt me with list including car exhaust, battery, tyres etc. So I said if he got exact prices from each individual company i would pay them direct when they did the work. Havent heard from him since lol !
