I look forward to two answers to which there will be no reply because I hate arguments...just not as much as pomposity and thoughtlessness.

Faced with a taxi bill of between £250 and £300 a week for eleven years for hospital treatment, friends and relatives only able to help on some of the trips and no way of finding that money, what exactly would you do? There is no possibility of moving closer to the hospital because one of you is also a carer for a mother with dementia.

Do be brave enough to answer. I am not being awkward. I really want to know.

I note that you have said that there will be no reply.

You have also intimated that the constant hospital visits were due to surgeon malpractice and for reasons of your own, you failed to seek legal advice which would have laid a financial basis for your problems.

On a general note and particularly to Lofty Lottie's post that one cannot afford to pay for hospital transportation, the answer is quite simple..............neither now can the NHS afford to.

When I said no reply I was expecting you to answer my question. Can you answer it?
In that situation that I had created myself in not seeking legal advice, then i would have to go into debt to solve the problem.
Question Author
Oh sod it! Of course i am going to reply. You know we did not create the situation and you end on a weak and temporary solution to a serious problem.
Is anything here relevant to you, Gness?

Chris, you beat me to it. Our local hospital has a desk near the front entrance, where we could fill in a form for help with travel costs. I would have been the same, gness, when nibble broke his knee, if friends and family hadn't rallied round with lifts - our nearest hospital is 25 miles away via motorway - and ours was only for a fortnight. "£45, madam, and that's in the daytime, night is more expensive."

Thanks B. Will let MrsO know. But lovely to have a helpful answer. x
How far do you have to travel to the hospital Gness? Where I live we have voluntary drivers who pick you up in their cars (I think they are booked through the hospital) and it doesn't cost much at all. Failing that, can't they just send an ambulance for you? An elderly friend of ours is having cancer treatment and she goes by transport ambulance.
As I have been brought into this thread I will say that Sqad still hasn't answered the question. How would people manage to get to hospital without the finance or the means to do it when there are so few local hospitals around these days and a a lack of public transport in rural areas. Perhaps if more money was pumped into the NHS by raising the taxes on the rich instead of pandering to them to keep in power, then the NHS might be able to do the job that it was intended for.

Sqad, you have lost touch with the common people.
Ann, we have that system where I live too, and I think it is operational in most areas. Nobody should be denied treatment or not be in a position when they can't attend hospital appointments because they have no money and not everybody has friends or family that are able to take them to multiple appointments or can afford to.
And legal advice costs a fortune - it is not for the common people either!!
As a GP or even up to being a consultant, Sqad, most likely, had the advantage of a reasonably cushy salary and pension from the NHS, so £15k, though not a small amount of money, even to him, would probably be attainable. The fact he choses to live road is perhaps symptomatic of his lifestyle.

And to be fair, he probably did earn his dosh - however the bedside manner could have perhaps been a little more considerate in this case of yours, Mrs O's and Lottie's.

Ron, I can not speak for.

We used those Ann and were extremely grateful for it.

Lottie. You are so right. Sqad is unable to answer the question because he has no argument and he knows it and whiskeyron, who I have always liked, hasn`t come back to answer either because they have been so unforgivably thoughtless towards a lovely person.
Can you tell I am really angry about their responses? x
chooses not choses - ouch.
and live abroad.....I must be pished and therefore need to take a taxi to A&E
BUPA & AXA dont offer travel costs with private insurances. The patient without funds would take a loan, if needs be.
((gness)),I have no idea what's gone on outside this thread, so excuse me if this is out of turn.

All I can imagine is you must be very drained, angry and grief is starting to kick in. Actually, nothing can unchange what happened; none of it was right or wrong, it was ever the best that could be done at the time.

Rest and take care now
The original thread for information (Hope this is OK gness)

It made me so mad!!

if you are hard up, you can get help with health costs travel scheme. you qualify if you are on a low income
I cant really remember much from my training but my local health service do provide transport for people, and rightly so.

The other alternative is no treatment then? (in a country like the uk- dont be silly)

And as for discharge, the alternative to a lift home is to stay in a bed that is needed which costs more.

Thats my opinion xx
