Good morning.

As some of you may be aware we have a new badge system implemented in The AnswerBank.

See full feature list here: http://www.theanswerb...Question1166360-9.htm

We closed the site for around 4 hours last night to try and get it all up and working - we've managed part of that!

* Badges can be found on your profile under the badge tab.
* You can see the badge of others on their profile - just click their avatar!
* Best answers can now be seen on public and private profiles

For example, see my two badges here: http://www.theanswerb...ers/ab-editor/badges/

The script which runs to generate all badge instances is still running, so expect some fluctuation regarding the number of badges you have gained!

Until the script finishes this page will be empty: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/badges/ but when it has completed there will be a list of all badges available and how to achieve them.

Here's the short version of how to get each: (NOTE: some of the numbers required have changed)

Definitions:
Debate Topics: News, Society & Culture, Religion and Spirituality
Long Thread: any thread with 60+ answers

Single Case Badges: (Badge with no bronze/gold/silver rankings)

Acolyte: made 100 posts to this thread: http://www.theanswerb.../Question1066858.html
The Motson: 20+ best answers in Football
The Delia: Achieved by achiving both The Motson and any level Michelian star
O.B.N. (Order of the Brown Nose): 15+ best answers marked by AB Editor
The Alan Shearer Punditry Trophy: 200+ answers in Sport and/or it's subsections without recieving a best answer for any of them. (Should this be taken away once a best answer is achieved)
Quick Draw: 10+ best answers which are also the first answers of the thread.
Gobshite - > 99% of posts in Chatterbank

3-Tier Badges: (Badges with bronze/gold/silver rankings)

Debator: taken part in 20/50/70 "Long Threads" in Debate topics
Great Host: Provided 33% of answers on 10/20/50 "Long Threads" they originated
Michelian Star: 10/20/50 best answers in Recipes
Newscaster: Posted 50/70/150 questions in News and/or Current Affairs
Chatterbox - More than 500/1000/5000 posts in Chatterbank
Healer - More than 10/20/50 best answers in Body & Soul (and its sub-topics)
Puzzler - More than 20/50/100 best answers in Quizzes and Puzzles
Legal Eagle - More than 10/20/50 best answers in Law
Agoniser - More than 10/20/50 best answers in Relationships & Dating
Nerd - More than 10/20/50 best answers in Technology (and its sub-topics)
1337ist - More than 10/20/50 best answers in Gaming
Jock - More than 10/20/50 best answers in Sport (and its sub-topics)

In short - we know it's not perfect - but we'll get there sooner rather than later. In the mean-time please:

1. Report any issues you're having here
2. Ask any questions about the upgrade here
3. Hurl general abuse at me here

Seriously Ed, 300+ answers and you can't pick a best one??

Ed, have you allocated badges now to everyone who's entitled to one, or is this an ongoing neonatal process? Several people are asking "where's mine" (who IMO ought to have one)
Question Author
"are they being released in stages, Ed, or are all there who are going to get one?"

We think the script is still running. Expect some tweaking as we get the tiers right for gold/silver/bronze.

"I haven't found mine, yet."

Your badges would be here if you had any: http://www.theanswerb...embers/tilly2/badges/ - you only have 9 best answers, so that's expected: http://www.theanswerb.../tilly2/best-answers/

"Apparently I have had 15514 best answers!"

Where did you read that?
Question Author
There's only 19 badges at the moment - so it's likely that some people just wont have any.

What do you think those who you feel are missing out should have one for? What would qualify them?
It also says on my 'best' tab that I have 'Questions 1 to 20 of 15514'
So did mine Ummmm, but Ed has knocked it back to 29
I am distraught!

A few years back I was told I had been inducted into the AB Hall of Fame only to now find that I am allocated 2 badges!

What have I done to offend you Mr Ed ?

I'm off to sulk.

K
You luck thing K, I only have the one. x

(hope all is well?)
I didn't realise that the badges would just relate to best answers.

So, I concede that I don't have enough best answers for a badge.
However, having over 6000 answers to a thread might make me eligible for a Crackerjack pencil.
They don't all, tilly - some are just for making the 100+ answers according to ed ^, or taking part in a long thread, etc.
My best answers tab's still showing 15514, Ed
How about a LOSER badge (has to be capitals just to rub it in) for anyone who has been registered for over a year and hasn't qualified for any of the other badges. That would seem to be the only way I'm gonna get one.
Question Author
It's not just best answers - you can see the criteria above.

We're going to be adding badges regularly - so expect further opportunities :)

K - you've got a gold Puzzler badge which mean you've got 100+ best answers in Q&P! That's pretty much top prize round these parts!
bibble must have a badge. He has so many best answers in Q&P
Nope, he's with me, the Great Unbadged....
Question Author
"How about a LOSER badge (has to be capitals just to rub it in) for anyone who has been registered for over a year and hasn't qualified for any of the other badges."

We were thinking of one of those for people who mark their own answer as "best" :)

As I said, there's only a few badges today. We'll add them as we go.

Bibblebub, I have no idea why you don't have a badge, I would have through with your 1000+ best answers you'd get at least one... I guess the script to hand out badge is still running :)
A lot of original posters don't use the "best answer" facility Ed, so thats hardly fair is it?
If you were a prolific poster, you used to get sent to the Dungeon for "over posting".

Now, you get a badge.

Will there be a retrospective pardon for those who were sent to the Dungeon (eg. Me) under the previous dictatorship, I mean "system"?

:0)
Question Author
"Bibble must have a badge. He has so many best answers in Q&P"

He certainly should have one! He did in testing actually...

Options:

a) The script hasn't finished running and handing the badges out
b) Something's wrong
c) It's an invisible badge.
can i have one for rubbing 2 boy scouts together?
Question Author
"A lot of original posters don't use the "best answer" facility Ed, so thats hardly fair is it?"

As I have said above, best answers are ONE of the metrics used.
