Living With New Partner As A Single Mum...
32 Answers
After 3 years of being divorced and over a year of seeing my new partner we have decided to move in together. However, I cant see how people do it when they are a single mother. I receive around £400 tax credits which pay for my childcare costs and get £30 a week from my sons dad. I struggle moneywise but get by, I dont go out, buy new clothes or go abroad on holidays. If my boyfriend moves in I will no longer get tax credits and even though he will be paying half towards the mortgage etc I will still be worse off. I cant expect him to pay towards my son as well.
I am interested to know how other people do it??

The cash is now taken directly from his bank account by the court and handed to my daughter as he kept sending cheques that bounced or made excuses not to pay.
You should be getting at least that amount as my daughter was told this was the absolute minimum he could be asked to pay. The child is 2 it would be more for an older child.

If you move the boyfriend in his income is added to yours and its then worked out what your entitled to, you can't say who pays this and that.
BUT make sure you get legal advice about the house and mortgage and the equity and the value and whos name is on the deeds. Honest I'v been there so make sure you cover every angle.

If you and your partner want to move in together just go for it, I understand you are wary, but you've not rushed into anything, you deserve to be happy. Just pool your money together and I'm sure all will be fine. Your partner when he got with you knew about your son and I'm sure it's more of a pride issue on your part about him paying more. My daughter went through the same as you, in the end they went for it and once she swallowed her pride and pooled money together they were fine. Her ex never pays a penny been 4 years now, gone through CSA, but he keeps changing his job.
Good luck to you, when you have a chance of happiness grab it.

go to the csa now and push for them to backdate your claim as far as possible. you have been far too generous towards him (especially considering your other post) and he seems to be the one without any responsibility at all!!! screw him into the ground and get every penny you can from him. selfish git....grrr; and poor you! no wonder you got divorced....x
