Both my parent's are dark haired and blue eyed and I'm red haired and dark brown eyed.People assume it's because my father is Irish but it was my mother's grandmother who had this coloured hair, so it's skipped a bit, although I have a strawberry blonde older brother whilst most of the rest are dark.

genetically red hair tends to skip a generation as it's a recessive gene that causes it. Put two together and you will always have red (as in my case with my ex - one is like you and very intense red, the other a much sandier colour.

As a biochemist friend of the ex said, if my ex had had a baby with black, fair or brown haired then I should be highly concerned!

That's interesting DT- I only have one full sibling ( lots of halfs and steps) and she has what you would think is dark hair but if you look very closely or she gets in the sun it's the darkest red so that ties in with what you've said.
