Has he been diagnosed with Bipolar?

You're an adult, first boyfriend or not, make your decisions...

When he was in foster care yes
I'll be honest I'd get a bit motional if my 27 year old boyfriend couldn't come out to play because his mum wouldn't let him, bipolar or not. You need to talk to your mum and explain that you're an adult and it's your life.

Overprotectiveness is often confused with controlling.
do you know him well enough to go away with him?

Rocky, she's 27 and talking about her mum.
Rocky - I think you have it the wrong way round. Leela is 27 living with her mum.

we've been talking through MySpace and Facebook for 6 years i met him in person a year ago and we've been together for 8 months
Balders, what is that link about, please.
Interesting link Balders, and shes 25 on that one.
When was it set up though?

Svejk, same username, so maybe same user, I have an enquiring mind, I always have a look!
When was it set up though?
how many times have you met, face to face?
Yes ummm, could have been set up two years ago I suppose.

leela, If like him then carry on seeing him, but you must tell someone, preferably your Mum before you go off anywhere with him if you don't know him that well.
You are 27 and an adult, perhaps if your mum knew that you actually had a boyfriend she would stop being so over protective. X
and him being bipolar doesn't automatically make him dangerous - just unpredictable.
someone should know where you're going with him.

if you don't know him well enough (and I don't mean online) to make that judgement call, you shouldn't be doing it.
simple -
1) ask him where you are going
2)tell your mum

problem solved
Are you sure you aren't really 17 - your post is remarkably immature for a 27-year-old.
Run a country mile if you are not prepared to read up on bipolarism and answer your own concerns - the condition is not for the faint-hearted when it comes to relationships and it can require the patience of a saint if the emotional level is hitting the ceiling or the floor, i.e. the medication is out of kilter.

I have two questions for you - what medication is he on? How many times has he been sectioned and treated?
