When I had life threatening pneumonia, it changed the way I look at life. I used to take it for granted, now I think of it as a gift. So whats the worst illness you've ever had?

MrG's man flu...... :-(
Glandular fever and pleurisy were each horrible.
I had a blocked windpipe. That was quite scary although easily solved with anti b's.

I once blocked my windpipe with a dorito. I drank some fanta to make it go down
After I had my youngest children (twins) I was really ill - fainting, all the skin came off my hands and feet, I felt like I was dying. I had emergency heart tests, dermatological tests, blood tests, all sorts, even caught one doc using Wikipedia to look up my symptoms. In the end they came up with Kawasaki disease (but only children are supposed to get it).
As a child was given the last rites when I was stricken with glandular fever...I was about 5 at the time...still remember the priest sprinkling holy water over me !
If I'm honest anxiety and panic attacks because not cured by tablets and going to bed.
I just caught the Kawasaki disease myself!
No....this was an infection blocking my windpipe...not a crisp!!
Tora, it's a real thing - I honestly thought I was going to snuff it!
fanta - the panacea the medical profession overlooked
I too had life-threatening pneumonia at the age of 10 but at that age I think that I was too young to change the way I looked at life (I don't remember much except the feverishness, a sleep-walking arousal, and the jabs in the bum from the GP - but it was over 60 years ago).
The worst illness I've had is also anxiety and depression - although now I'm better, i can say it taught me a lot.

I know it wasnt a crisp. Just saying that it did happen to me once.
Both my sister and uncle have had meningitis.
No it didn't if fanta solved it.
As a child I used to contract tonsillitis twice a year. My GP was against tonsillectomy. "He'll grow out of it" he told my mother. Well I never did. When I was 21 I developed "Quinsy". This is not to be confused with the Los Angeles Medical Examiner famously played by Jack Klugman in the 1970s TV series. It is a serious and acute inflammation of the tonsils which, if left unchecked, can sometimes prove fatal because it blocks one's airways. With a temperature of about 104 I has to get a taxi to the local A&E where a surgeon lanced both my tonsils there and then - no anaesthetic, no nothing. Just "open wide" and a scalpel was used to cut my tonsils and relieve the swelling. He almost certainly saved my life.

A few months later I had to have my tonsils removed. This is not a pleasant experience once you reach adulthood. I watched three lots of kids come and go seeing them eat their jelly and ice cream then playing football at the end of my bed whilst I lay there on a drip for about ten days. I would not wish that on anybody
....sorry sherrard didn't mean to be flippant! Just got a ZZR! checked it out sounds nasty for the saucepan lids. I had a strangulated hernia when I was 6 months old, new nowt about it but I do have the scar! Laterly the worst I've had is a bout of celulitis felt strange more than anything, hot and cold at the same time weird!
I appear to have been very lucky, the worst I ever had was appendicitis, mind you, that smarted a bit!
No probs Tora, I don't know anything about motorbikes so didn't twig.
