Women Using Their Maiden Names & Then Their Married Ones.
33 Answers
Probably this a fairly recent trend, but is there any reason (social
media) or otherwise for married ladies inserting their maiden names
between their first names & married ones?
I have a daughter who uses her first name, her maiden name (my name)
& then her married name.
A daughter-in- law meanwhile uses her first name, then her married
name (my surname) but no mention of her maiden name.
Obviously a personal choice but any explanation?

Everything they owned transferred to the husband. Now that the property grabbing has died out, why shouldn't women keep their maiden names after marriage?
If I had married the bloke everyone presumed I would, my name would have sounded ridiculous and I would have been tempted to insert my maiden name for this reason. My surname is relatively common, but I wouldn't want to change it just because I'd married someone. Why should I?

Many females continue to use their maiden name professionally because they have a lot of contacts who know that name and it would be impossible to notify everyone that they have changed their surname on marriage. Some also do so to keep their private life just that, private. On social media it is often so that friends/associates can identify them by whichever surname they know them. Finally, some women choose not to use their husbands surname. There is no legal requirement for them to do so.
