Does everybody remember what they were doing on that day ?

I was just 13 years old and I recall gathering around the TV, with at least another 15 people....... My Dad went mad about 1 second after the whistle went off !

Probably trying to eat a piece of meccano
50 years.....how embarrassing!
Watching the match on telly
God give it a rest, the only reason that people keep harking back to 66 is because its the last time they won anything!!!

Perhaps they should look forward and spend more time working on winning the next cup!
Not so embarrassing when you think that on 8 nations have won the world cup, Tilly.
And only one Country has won the Football World Cup and the Rugby World Cup.
If England winning the world cup upsets you so much it is probably best you don't return to the thread, Islay.

Calm down dear, it is only a World Cup.
That's me told. :-)
I watched the match on an old (even for 1966) TV set in a room in the local church hall that we were allowed to use as a 'youth club'. I was 15.
We thought we were very sophisticated with our 'own room' we had a record player and an electric kettle to make coffee as well as the ancient TV set.
How sad, the churlish, peevish, anti British sentiment pervades early this morning. Off to find a friendly thread.
That wasn't to you Tills. Have an oatcake for me.^^
Was that the World Cup they had World Cup Willy?

Sitting on a coach with a very young Mr BD, his parents and his sister going to Anglesey for a week's holiday. Someone on the coach had a portable radio so we heard bits and pieces. Never understood why Bobby Moore got a knighthood and the rest of the team didn't get a look in. Very unfair.
Disgracefully Bobby Moore did not receive a knighthood. He was awarded an O.B.E., and whilst other squad members have been knighted the imperious Bobby Moore never was. That is to our shame. He would have been revered in any other country. In fact the Germans think more of him than some of us do.
Question Author
Ooops made a mistake over the knighthood but the point I was trying to make was that they should all have been treated the same as it was a team game.
Like Ian Bell getting an MBE for scoring about 5 runs in the 2005 Ashes win? Should everyone get an honour for a team game, or anything actually?
In answer to Mikey's question, I hadn't been born then. Thanks for letting me say that.
