if you report him it will get investigated by the police

What would happen to your husband would depend upon what the Crown Prosecution Service charged him with (and, of course, whether or not he was then convicted of some/all of those offences). The CPS will be aware that many offenders will simply say "It's all lies", forcing the CPS to produce evidence in court to support their prosecution of the case.
So you need to ask yourself what evidence (such as witness statements or medical reports) could be made available to a court. Even if you can't think of much that could help in that respect you still shouldn't be deterred from reporting the matter to the police.
It's likely that, while the case is waiting to get to court, your husband would be given an interim order prohibiting him from contacting you (effectively forcing him to find somewhere else to live). Even if he managed to avoid being found guilty of any criminal charges (because the court couldn't find enough evidence to prove the case 'beyond all reasonable doubt') your statements alone would probably be sufficient to get a permanent civil order against him, barring him from ever contacting you again.
In the first instance though it might be best to talk to someone on the Refuge helpline:

I can't help too much as the lack of punctuation in your post makes it almost impossible to follow. However, one issue I could pick out:
"...can anyone guide me to what charges can I press..."
You cannot press any charges. That is the job of the CPS and to get them involved you must report these matters to the police. One other piece of advice is that once you start the ball rolling with them you will find it very difficult to stop it. The CPS have a policy of pursuing domestic violence issues with or without the victim's co-operation. If you make these allegations to the police you cannot decide a day or two later to withdraw them.
Another bit I did pick out from your post:
"...then begged me to come back to him and i love my husband and went back..."
You should be aware (or you may have already found out) that perpetrators of domestic violence do not "get better". They only get worse. Go to the police, tell them what has happened to you. The police may be in a position to apply for a "Domestic Violence Protection Order" (depending on what you tell them). This is a court order which will keep him away from you. If they don't then immediately find yourself somewhere safe to move to (the police may be able to help with this in the short term) and do not return to him or let him anywhere near you. It will be difficult for you but you must do it.

This man has abused you mentally and physically. You have also been brainwashed by him. My daughter works for Women's Aid counselling children as they are affected too. I suggest you go to Women's Aid as they can give you refuge with your children and also get you legal help. If you cannot find them locally, try your library or ring the Samaritans as they should have contact details. You need to take steps now as this is affecting your children.
