Can Anyone Throw Any Light On This.....
8 Answers
I have a small book of my mother's called The Cheerful Day which was given to her at a time of sadness in her life. It is inscribed on the inside 18th June 1936 her 27th birthday and living away from her home in Suffolk. My siblings do not know why it was dedicated "To my dear 'Blaney' from Weddy." We know that Weddy was derived from the surname "Weddell" but my mother's surname was Carter so no link there. Has anyone heard of this moniker Blane or Blaney? from that era possibly? Love to find the connection!

died before my mother) whose name was Helen Mary Carter, her Grandmother was a Riches so no clue there. I suspect that at 27 she may have had a romance which was unreciprocated although she never told us. She possibly had hopes of marriage as 27 was getting on. She did not meet our father until she was 30 and had her first child in less than nine months.
