OH had problems with his laptop. It kept freezing and crashing. He found a company on line that promised to clear it. They charged £31.14 which seemed reasonable. I have to do any phone calls for him as he so deaf. I was on the phone and on line for an hour and a half while they whizzed through all sorts of things. He was told he had numerous Trojan horse viruses as well as loads of other stuff. Eventually they said they had cleared his laptop. To enable this he had to pay £479.99. This was a 3 year deal.
Very reluctantly he paid it as he was desperate for closure. We asked what would happen if he bought a new lap top. They said it would be infected the same as the problem was in the system. So we went ahead.
Later told daughter what had happened. She Investigated. They are a scam company!
Lots of stuff on the internet about them. They are called Restoro.
We emailed them asking for a refund, no reply.
I called credit card company this morning but payment has already gone through. Tesco Fraud company are trying to help but are not hopeful.
Be warned everybody. Check these things out first as we should have done.

Sorry to hear your story and thanks for the warning.
You managed to instigate a scam on yourself? Did it now occur to you to google the company before you contacted them?
Ooh nasty but as soon as the larger sum was asked for, alarm bells would ring loudly, you can buy a brand new one now for less than these assholes were asking Caran

Oh yes we have had a real telling off from daughter. Had to promise we will talk to them first before we do anything like this again.
it's always a significant event when the children take over from the adults as the sensible ones in the family!

Easy to say from here but that was clearly rubbish and should of set alarm bells ringing if they wern't allready

We are not computer literate at all. Just enjoy playing.
Also he is 83. I hope we can learn by our mistakes.
I really hope Tesco look on your request favourably Caran,these scammers need put against a wall and shot!
I am sick sorry this has happened to you. Learn from it but forgive yourselves otherwise it will eat away at you both. I strongly recommend you put your machine back to factory settings in case this company has left anything nasty. If you don't know how to do it hopefully a relative does.
You could have had a brand new, up-market computer for that money. You should seek advice before you make any further ventures on the internet.

We compromised two credit cards. The first one, the Tesco was used to pay the initial £31.14, he tried to pay the £479.99 with that card too but it was declined by the Tesco card, don't know why. So he used another card Jaja. They accepted it. Tesco fraud dept. Rang this morning due to suspicious activity. That's how they got involved. They say we can ring Tesco card after 30 days and ask for a section 75 claim. We can ring Jaja after 15 days and ask for the same. We will see what happens then.

I’m so sorry this has happened to you caran,. In fairness though, sometimes we only see the small picture ( let’s just get this finished with) . No matter how alert we are sometimes the scammers win. I hope you get a refund . I know one thing you and oh will never fall for anything again online .

He has just bought a refurbished lap top so hope everything will be ok.
These predatory scammers make me so cross, sorry to read your tale of woe Caran.
