They Shall Not Grow Old ..

Looking through youtube I found this amazing footage of a forensic lip reader brought in to lip read the spoken words of soldiers who fought at the Somme. After that I found out about a documentary film that was made in 2018 called ' They shall not grow old' by Peter Jackson. What he did was to hire lip readers again and also streamlined the old black and white footage so that the jerky black and white film ran more smoothly, also added colour. The result is just amazing. This documentary film is available I believe in Netflix. I did find a free stream of the whole film but not sure I could transfer it on to here. It's very graphic in parts, so it will not suit everyone. It is though an amazing documentary for those that might be interested . I will attach the initial YouTube's I found.

That documentary was shown on tv several years ago, and I think it's been on since then. Very emotive footage...everyone should watch it.

Thanks for posting this, eleanor. Very moving and very interesting.
My great uncle was killed on the first day of the Somme and was awarded the military medal posthumously , would be great if there was any film of his Regiment ( 1st Battalion, South Staffs Regiment ).
