TV Presenter Julia Bradbury has been diagnosed with breast cancer and, at the age of 51, she opted to have a double mastectomy, to give herself the best possible chance. She had her surgery yesterday, and as my mum died of this, whilst also just in her 50’s, this is a subject very close to my heart. So I, and am sure all of us, wish her the very best, and speediest recovery. And hopefully before you know it she’ll be up and about playing with her kids, and back on our TV screens, thinking up daft things for our Xmas shopping lists and all the daft things we are all thinking of at this time of year x

I agree Smow. I like this woman and I wish her well.

Hi Shirley. Yes she’s a lovely woman indeed, very unpretentious…
It must have been a very hard decision for her Smow to have a double mastectomy. What a terrible position to be in.
Thinking of Julia too.
Hope she makes a good recovery and wish her all the best for the future.
We could sent best wishes to every woman who has had to make that very difficult decision .

We could indeed Annea….
Good luck Julia, I have two friends who opted for this and both have never looked back , one is just 39 years old the other has taken her tamoxifen for the 10 years and has beencancer free for 15 years now, a very wise decision which is God forbid I’d have to make, I would , in a heartbeat
I don't know who she is but that's a terrible thing for anyone to have to face. Poor lady.

I can’t imagine being in that position but I think she’s made the right decision. And reconstructive surgery, if she goes for that, is just incredible these days!

Naomi - Julia is best known for presenting Countryfile with Matt Baker, but she’s presented lots of things.
I too wish Julia all the best & a speedy, comfortable recovery.
I'm none the wiser, smow - I don't watch much television - but I wish her well nonetheless.
Nice sentiments Smow - it's so easy while we are bombarded by news items about this appalling pandemic to forget all the other suffering going on around us.

My best wishes for a speedy recovery to the lovely Julia, and to all the other millions round the world experiencing sickness and injury.

Tbh guys I’m sick of hearing about petrol, pandemic, loo roll shortages, queues everywhere, I even read this morning that people can’t get taxis now as the drivers have all tried to get other jobs!! It’s getting stupid! So all my/our very best to Julia and am now going to try and think of something more cheerful!
I wish Julia and indeed anyone who is in this situation just now the very best.

Her words may hopefully help bolster up others.

//The anxiety leading up to my mastectomy was overwhelming. Now I feel relief.I'm sad that such a brutal procedure is necessary in many breast cancer cases, but I choose life.I'll follow Walt Whitman's words:Keep your face always toward the sun & the shadows will fall behind you.//
yes my friend is celebrating 5 years of double mastectomy and while it was hard at first - she is great now. Fantastic stamina - she walks an hour in the morning and an hour of an afternoon.

Only regret but she was 67 when she had it done - she could have gone for reconstructive surgery - so in certain situations - she can be embarrassed about having no breasts.
