hi jno - sqad wd have a duty by reason of being a doctor ( enforced by civil courts and GMC). If it were not his patient, ( to whom he has a duty of care anyway) then not civil but still GMC ( I think - I cant imagine they wouldnt waggle a finger at a doctor who had Kept Silent)

what's the position with priests at the moment? Is there still some sanctity in the confesessional or do they withhold their knowledge at their own peril, like Montgomery Clift?

I dont know if wiki goes into it - he received insistent complaints about child abuse in his diocese concerning a Benedictine. OSB (Benedictines that is, but I am sure you knew that!) were not under diocesan control and so the Bishop said
Nothing to do with me - go elsewhere
He resigned before he was deposed and is / was in 'prayerful retirement' at a - - monastery.

Take that as a duty to report
