//Would you like a fourteen year old daughter (or grand- or great-grand-daughter) of yours addressed like that?//
First and foremost, Stacey is not a daughter (or grand- or great-grand-daughter). He is a son, grandson or great grandson. But that aside, yes I would like him addressed like that. Most fourteen year olds have fantasies. But I would like to think that if my son (or grandson or great grandson) came out with such a statement, somebody would treat him to the reality of his situation rather than indulge in his fantasy.
Unfashionable as it may seem, I don't subscribe to the idea that a fourteen year old boy can become a girl simply by saying so. He can say whatever he likes. But it doesn't alter reality, hence my analogy, which was deliberately flippant in order to emphasise how ridiculous the notion is. .
