Trying to find where my mum is buried (long story).I know her full name, d.o.b and d.o.d, plus county she lived and died in.  I don't have her full last address or the date of funeral.....every site I look at for help wants me to join them, or asks for info that I just don't have. Am I missing an obvious other way??

do you know she was definately buried?

can anyone else who knew her help?

Is it not worth joining somewhere like ancestry.co just to get the info then terminate membership ?

When did she die?  If it was within the last few years it may not be so easy to find online.

Try this, smow.

She died in 2009. No I don't know if it was a burial or cremation. There is one person I could ask but that would be a last resort, like I said, it's a long story. : (

As bednobs asked, do you know for sure if she was buried?

If she was cremated, there wouldn't be a grave.

Naomi - Thanku, I don't know where the cemetery location is - well I assume they mean town/county, and I've put county but nothing comes up.

Barsel - wouldnt there be some kind of record tho, such as the date??

Yes, the crematorium keeps records

First step is to obtain a copy of the death certificate.  That will tell you who registered the death and her address at dod.  There is the possibility that the person registering the death will be "causing the body to be buried/cremated".

You can call the crematorium local to her, they should have a record - although they may charge you for a search.

If you know the town she lived in, take a look at their newspapers archive obits. That would give you the name of the funeral director who performed the funeral/cremation.

If you know the County, Google how many Crematoriums there are in that county and if there are not too many, call them

They will be able to tell you if she was buried or cremated at that particular Crem.

There is no central record for burials or cremations if that is what you are hoping for, Smow.

It is also worth doing a search for a Will.  This might have funeral wishes in it.  They may not have been followed, but worth a shot.

I'll post some links in a bit.

This is looking like I'm going to have to ask the one person who I didn't want to ask....... just really didn't want them to think I had just forgotten the date/place, when it's not as simple as that : (

I didn't know if my dad was buried or cremated but I had a rough idea where the crem would be, so I just went along to their office and they looked in their records and were able to answer my question.

There was definitely a will Barmaid, as I was named in it, but I have no idea what the will actually said as I've never seen it.

You can apply for a copy of the Will

Will will costs you  £1.50.  But you can only get a copy if it went thru Probate.

Search probate records for documents and wills (England and Wales) (probatesearch.service.gov.uk)

Smow, do you feel you could share with us which County your Mum lived in when she died?

Don't worry if you feel you can't do that.
