This is a bad move, more should be invested in training much needed doctors.

I would have expected a Labour government to be in full support of it, I hope the 20 students that have already started getting the funding to complete their training.

A different way to train, not sure Sqad would have approved, but the apprentices study for the same exams and have to reach the same standards to pass as conventional medical students

Hadn't realised they had them. My immediate thought is if the apprentices get the same coursework and qualifications why are some having to go through a traditional academic course ? Sort of implies it's needed after all.

Not enough genuine info from anyone, I suspect, as no one is going to knock one path or the other. Let's just hope it all works out ok as we need more Brits to go into the profession in order to stop nicking qualified staff from other nations.

The apprenticeships were available to a select few who could not afford the traditional training, starting with a very limited number of apprentices with plans to increase year on year.

So does that mean some won't have the opportunity to train as doctors - and if so what's the rationale behind it?

Question Author

I can't begin to understand why it's been scrapped.

This is the government stance for starting the scheme

I read elsewhere that Starmer is withdrawing funding.  Sorry, I can't post a link but that's why it's being scrapped.  Might have guessed money would he involved.

Yes, that's what I meant by my heading.

I thought I had posted the link, it is behind a paywall unfortunately

Well, that's the rationale behind it.  The government of penny-pinching in things that really matter - and chucking money like confetti at things where savings could and should be made.

//what's the rationale behind it?//

Idealism, Jealousy, hatered of people getting on, potential loss of lvoters in the future. (Not many doctors vote labour)

2TK is a clown, nothing he says or does makes sense.
