5 Answers
please can you help. I am a teen. My problem is this....my Grandmother of whom I was very close to died a while back. I have a few questions of which I was wondering whether anyone could possibly help me with. It's just............she was cremated and her ashes scattered in the garden Of Rememberence......I have never been..i have a question....when ashes are scattered in a Garden Of Rememberence are they scattered in EXACTLY the same spot...or spread out.? ..if spread out then how far spread out? Also WHERE (e.g. on what surface) are ashes scattered??? e.g. the grass? or WHERE? can anyone possiblyprovide me with any answers? as this is important to me. DOES SNYONE KNOW UPON WHAT SURFACE ASHES ARE SCATTERED UPON IN GARDEN'S OF REMEMBERENCES. ALSO......are they scattered all in the same spot??

Sorry about your Gran, all I can tell you is what happened when my mum died, her ashes were scattered on the rose beds, around the garden of rememberance, if the crematorium is near you go there and sit in the garden,it is very peacefull and you will feel close to her, you will probably see a gardener working, and you can ask them exactly where they would be scattered, hope this helps you, take care, Ray

It might depend on the crematorium. One near me has four beautiful rose beds in a circle with a small gap of grass in between. They are are named after precious metals. My Mother's ashes were scattered along the length of a rosebed named "goldsmith" which I guess is about 20 yards long, and her ashes were scattered on the soil between the roses there.
In Hampshire my Uncles ashes were scattered in a smaller space on grass near to trees and shrubs and I was taken to view the spot (not that I could see anything, other than grass) so I think it depends on the layout of any individual crematorium, but scattering of ashes are always done in a tasteful and discreet and kind manner.
I'm sorry for your loss Willow, your Grandmother will be in a nice place and will be left there with great care and attention.

some crems do keep records, you can request at ours where you want the ashes scatterd so we leave flowers under the tree where we chose to scatter them, I have seen some "done "in a cross shape.
do contact the crem or the council to find out if they have records and take your gran some flowers and spend a while there thinking about the good times it may bring you peace
hope this helped

When my younger brother died in 2004 (aged 43) - the crematorium provided a kind of map to tell the family where the ashes had been scattered. They were near a tree, so the family knew where to lay flowers on his birthday (Xmas Day). Even if we didn't know, it's a very uplifting experience to go there and see all the floral tributes, showing that nobody has been forgotten. Very emotional. My good wishes are with you Willow.
