Hello :-)

I've decided to go all high tech in teaching Mini Boo the names of everyday objects, so instead of books all the time I thought it'd be a nice to have some PC time together as well by looking at pictures of everyday objects/animals (duck, bucket, banana, bucket etc etc etc) on the internet.

However after trying unsuccessfully to find a suitable site via Google, I must be putting in the wrong search words or something, I'm appealing to you lot- lol.

All I want is pages filled with pics of 'thing's for her to point at and say. Surely such a site exists???

Thanks in advance

Boo

Hi Boo - what about using clip art in word? if you link to the internet in clip art you can down load 1000's of images.

I did something with Master Hellion when he was wee I took digital phot's of family and friends and put then in a one of those little photo alnbums, 1 picture to a page one, and he loved looking through that and learning everones name.
Hi , B00 Sorry I do not have an answer for you , just an observation. When my nephew was small and we lived under a flight path serving Heathrow airport, as a plane came into view we would rush out with him, point at the said plane and ask " See it?". For ages afterwards he thought they were called seeits !! We had a laugh but it must of been cruel to make him learn twice !!! Hope you are lucky on here x

Hiya Hellion- I tried clip art, however unless I'm being particularly dense (don't answer that one!) all I'm coming up with is cartoonish/stylised pics of things, not actual photos of things on there.

Hey flumpy good to see you again, where you been? Ta for little story, made me smile :-)
Try Google Image, type in what you want a picture of
Ok Boo - In word
Toolbar - Insert
Cick Picture
A panel should open up on the right hand side of the page

At the bottom there should be a blue link that says 'clips online'
Open Link and it will conect you to internet clip art at the top there is a search box in the drop down menu select 'photos' and in the other box the subject that you want like 'dog' you should get photos of dogs

I hope this works - if not come back and I'll think of something else!

Ooooo will do hellion, ta very muchly :-)

orangelady I thought of that, but as I want hundreds...well ok, a lot, that'd take forever :-(
Not sure if it's the kind of thing you're looking for but there are two sites I've found - can't do the link thingys but they are:

www.itscotland.org.uk
go to early years online then resources then illustrations

Haven't inspected it fully but it does look cartoony so it might not be what you're after

Also
www.teachingideas.co.uk

There are various subjects and ideas on there. Not found any pictures but lots of stuff on so there could be something.

How old is Mini Boo? My niece is nearly 2. This is a good idea, I'm going to scour the sites properly at the w/end so if I find any more I'll let you know x

cheers catlavender- will check em out in a bit. Can't now as I'm gonna watch the Last Samurai (or Last of the Samurai as I mistakenly called it on a thread earlier!)

Mini Boo's 22 months old and I just thought it'd be something different to do with her instead of looking at books all the time to try and learn her stuff. I'm thinking in my head of pictures, loads of em, all different things, like flashcards all on one page.
At first it seemed ok, but looked further and if you want mini boo to see all the weird dogs and people than thats ok but my guess is you want something a bit more normal. I havent looked properly at the site but there might be a decent page somewhere. In the meantime i'll keep on looking.
animals is ok but just hide her/his eyes when you get to the strange lookin man on the first page.
I know I keep posting, but this site seems ok, more everyday things.
Sorry again, just saw the condoms and the pill. Hide mini boo's eyes!
What a weird thought...

Why don't you take her for a walk to the park and point at ducks, trees and bicycles?

Alternately, I would probably search on Google Pictures for all I want and then put them together into either a Word Document or an HTML-Page.
Mini Boo must be very well behaved if she'll sit and look at the computer screen. My niece is 22 months too and she just bangs the hell out of the keyboard. The Tweenies site is good, for fun, they have songs etc on there and she is fascinated by anything that has music on it so you could try that.

bird_81 thank you, along with everyone lese you're a star for looking for me-much appreciated :-)

catlavender well she's got a short attention span, but it keeps her quiet for about 5 minutes, lol.

bohne not quite sure why you think it's a weird idea! Of course I take her out and show her things, but as we can't spend 24/7 outdoors I thought it might be a good idea to learn things when she's indoors as well, I personally can't see anything wrong with that! Thank you for your idea though.
Just been looking again. Not exactly what you were after but if you go to the bbc1 website and click on cbeebies there are picture links to sites for all the different programmes. They actually read stories with pictures on The Storymakers one. Looks very good. Definitely going to try some out with niece this weekend.

Thank you catlavender you're a star- let me know how it goes this weekend with your niece :-)
Hi Boo - Well we tried the Cbeebies website and went on the fimbles, tweenies, story makers and a couple of others. She wasn't too keen on sitting listening to the stories but she loved watching the singing/dancing video clips (esp the fimbles) and stayed mesmerised for half an hour which isn't bad going.

Have you managed to find anything you were looking for for Mini Boo or tried any of the sites out?
Hi Boo -

If you go to this search engine and then just click on the Images tab - you can search for ducks or cats or whatever you want to show her - having been a Mother and now a Grandmother - I know you have to take your 5 minutes of peace where ever you can find them!!!

Don't forget to click on the Images tab first.
