Just rung NHS direct as per thread below, but didn't know if anyone could give me some advice.
When my son was 6 weeks old he went into anaphlactic (sp?) shock from powedered baby milk. After this he wasn't allowed any dairy products until he was a year old. When he was 1 he was food challenged and all was fine and was allowed to have dairy again. Every now and again he came up with spots on face and was assured by Dr's this was fine and told me was excema and given steroid cream. He is now 5 soon to b 6 in Feb, over the last 6 months or so the spots have increased..taken back down the Dr's and asked for allergy testing again.. but no they say he is fine given more cream etc.
Thurs last week he had ice cream for pudding about 2 mins later face was swollen blotchy and all lumpy, all lumps and bumps on chest tummy and back. Gave benadryl and returned to semi normal, kept him up for an hour after his normal bedtime and he was ok. went and checked on him in the night still slighly swollen in face and slightly wheezy. No probs Fri, on Sat he had angel delight and same thing happened.
What i don't understand is he doesn't get this after eating cereal or drinking milk or eating yogurts or eating cheese, and the day before he had ice cream for pudding he had an ice cream for pudding too with no probs. Been down dr's today and feel kind of fobbed off and that they didn't want to listen, just gave me a stronger kind of benadryl and told me to stop giving him dairy.. which is fair enough if he was having a reaction to all of the dairy products, but he is not. If i knew for sure what he was allergic to would help. Needless to say he is not allowed ice cream or angel delight anymore. But is it fair stopping milk and cheese etc when i don't know for sure that he is allergic to these..
this is something you really need to discuss with your doctor, try to get a second opinion as its obvious something is causing the reactions.
In the meantime have you consided using a soya milk instead to make the angel delight? Im not sure if it would work but at least your son wont be missing out on the food he likes.
There's a lot of other nasties in ice cream and angel delight. Is it worth checking the ingrediants to see if there are any common denominators? It may not be dairy but something else, but redcrx is right you must be very insistent at the Doctor and get further testing done.
