In case you are interested the Express Newspaper has asked people to petition Downing Street to abolish inheritance tax, sounds like a good idea to me, If it does to you and yours this is the link (as in the paper!) ;

www.express.co.uk/inheritancetax

I hope it works, if not search for the Express website and I am sure you will find it.

try this one, direct to Downing street!
if you can show me any instance of a petition to the goverment working, i'll sign.
I agree. Petitions seem to be a waste of time where the Government is concerned!
The thieving ba$tards!!!
i did it! wierd because i have never done this before but one of my colleagues sent me a link to the same site to sign a petition against the new road charges the govt want to put in place. you have to buy a box for 200 and they charge you monthly according to how far you travel. They will also be able to tell if you break the speed limit and issue you with parking fines.
Doh! i meant to say speeding fines!
Are you ready to see that money put on income tax or do you just want "something for nothing"?

If you're OK with it going on income tax - is it fair to tax the whole country to subsidise those who are in a position to inherit over a quarter of a million pounds?

Sounds like the rich robbing the poor to me
My parents have grafted all their lives and are quite well off through doing so, why should the goverment get its hands on any of their "already been taxed money" ?.

Once you have paid tax on your earnings that should be it.

I work very hard for my future, all my pay rises and bonuses go straight into my fund, so when I croak it anything left should go to my kids not the bloody goverment.
The company that employs me pays corporation tax.

Does this mean I should be exempt from income tax because the money has been taxed already?

I pay Income tax - does this mean I should be exempt from VAT because the money has been taxed already?

That logic simply doesn't stand up.

HJT, I will sign it, I was disgusted at the case of the two old ladies reported in the media a couple of months ago. The basic outline of their case is that they are two old spinster sisters and the surviving sister on her siblings demise will have to sell the house they have lived in all their lives to pay this ridiculous tax. If they were to take same sex lovers they would be exempt UMPHHHHH . What twaddle !!! Poor loves.
