stretchmarks aren't genetic, but they do depend on the strength of your skin...my mum has had two kids and a bit of middle age spread and doesn't have any. i have no kids and am skinny, but got stretchmarks simply from going through puberty because i have very pale, thin, dry skin without much pigment or stretch...

they only started to heal to silver from red after taking fish oil supplements to strengthen from the inside. vitamin E is also good for than as is zinc. better than anything topical!
(but check if that kind of thing is safe in pregnancy!)

My wife used bio oil all the way through her pregnancy and she has no stretchmarks whatsoever.
My wife has just had a baby and Bio Oil which is available at most boots stores is fantastic. As someone mentioned before nothing will get rid of them but if it's used during and after the pregnancy it dramatically reduces the effects that stretch marks have.

hope this helps.

It is genetic... .. It is all down to the strength of the deep layers of skin and how they bare up to the weight gain....

The majority are right, either you will or you wont....

I used e45 which is supposed to be great. However I am covered in the nasty things. I used cream on my tummy, and still got them, i didnt use it anywhere else and still got them on my boobs and legs too. I did get MASSIVE though. My sister got none. I think its luck of the draw, I also heard its the way your skin breaks down the protien in your system?!?! My husband says i look like I've been attacked by a great white shark!!!
Body Shop Wheatgerm oil. I used it every day and didn't get one stretch mark.....however, I do think its genetics as well. My mother didn't get a stretch mark either
Hi Kitty, i had my son 8 and half years ago and I didnt develop stretch marks, i did however use a cream from Mothercare, their own brand and I did use it every day, twice a day. but strangely, I lost weight from top of my thighs and I have stretch marks there... so not sure if i should have put it on my thighs instead of my tum!
condom
Hi ,
I have always had pretty bad stretch marks around my belly region ever since I gave birth to my three kids.I had tried Vitamin E oil and cocoa butter which a number of people had recommended but it didn't seem to work. My Doctor had even suggested a Tummy Tuck. I then recently read an article about a lady who supposedly got rid of her stretch marks using a particular cream. I tried it and it worked really well. My stretch marks disappeared in 3 weeks. You can read more about the lady's article at the link below.

Pippa-my daughter got the same thing, and I've never had them even with my enormous (9lb 8ozs) second child, so maybe genetics isn't the reason. It's luck, and I reckon it's luck too if bio oil works .
