Honeymoon in dominion repeblic

Hi thats wierd have just come on here to ask about the dominion republic and the first post that I see on here was by mrsann about the dom rep, anyway we are getting married in may next year and have fallen in love with the dominion republic with what I have seen on the net it does look like paradise and the perfect place to go to for a honeymoon have any of you been and can you recomend any good hotels but not to expensive we are looking around 7-8 hundred for 2 weeks have found a good site on here that have nice looking hotels for around that price inc surcharges but wish to know peoples first hand opinoin on the island and also have read that they have 2 rainy seasons there one in the north and one in the south at differant times of the year is this true and if so what does it mean exactly by the rainy season ie does it pour down all day or is it like america in the summer when they have a huge downpour regulary every afternoon then it clears up within an hour or less.
Also a bit concerned as wether you can get out at night to the local pub etc or are you realy just confined to the hotel is there any life outside of the hotels at night if not what are the hotels entertainment like.
Another thing is I know all the hotels are fully inclusive and we have only been on one f/i holiday that was in mallorca and the drinks there were like drinking cats urine I hope that I am right in thinking that they will be a bit better in the d/r.
Any advise would be gratefully recieved.

I would consider the D/R to be the lowest end Caribbean destination - and for a Honeymoon would really suggest you choose another place for all your special memories. If it's the Caribbean you definitely want, I would suggest Barbados as a realistic alternative, which should still be affordable, albeit perhaps not All Inclusive. If you would consider Latin America then I think Cancun in Mexico would be just the ticket and you'd certainly get All Inclusive for a good price.
