It takes some time, though, I think for me it took almost a month for me to go out of pleasure instead of obligation. So your hubby should keep insisting and hey.... why don't YOU join the gym either? When I joined, some weeks later my boyfriend joined too and we go together, one motivates the other... it can really make a difference!
You know why, because you feel more energetic, less tired, and when you are stressed it seems to release it! While you are there sweating and feeling a little irritated by that, you are burning some calories...
If you are on a hurry to shed some pounds, apart from the exercise, there is an option that I would call emergency option... it's not a very nice diet to go into but it really works if you want to be in it for just a couple of weeks NO MORE! It's called Atkins, you probably heard of that. The one you cut out most of the carbohydrates and stick to fruits, veggies and proteins... it makes quite a fast effect.
Last advice: never compare yourself to your future hubby because men lose weight easier (usually) than us women, so, don't feel guilty if he starts to shed the pounds and you take longer!

The best piece of equipment I ever purchased was a Tony Little Gazelle Elite. They sell them on the Shopping Channels but hey .. .. take a look on eBay. I got mine there for 45, like new but I had to collect it.
30 min's a day (you can watch Eastenders whilst you excercise) it's virtually impact free and really does burn calories. I lost the 10lb I wanted to get rid of within six weeks of buying it (OK, but I was stood around two days just looking at it ... hahaha.) Just an idea you might want to think about it, think about eBay and a sample pic is below.
