More help needed

A friend of mine has just given birth to twin girls. She also has 4 other children, 2 of them under 3 years old and the other two are teenagers. Their income is limited and so cannot afford professional help. Is she entitled to 'home help' once provided by social services?

If your friend has only just given birth to the twins, surely someone at her local health clinic would be able to offer some sound advice. They must have dealt with many cases like this before.

As a mother who has been totally overwhelmed by having 2 children ....7 1/2 yrs apart, your post makes me come out in a cold sweat!! Woah, 6 children and 4 of them under 3. Post natal depression, no sleep, no time to herself, greasy, unwashed hair, sick on shoulders, no fun, no life ...no nothing! Oh my God, I want to run for the hills just reading it!
She needs more than practical help. She need that in abundance and huge, huge emotional support. Her husband works away, did you say? She needs saving. I feel a rising panic and am so glad that it's not me, I would just die!!
Rant over....kwicky, I'm glad that she has you as a concerned friend. She's really going to need you.

you need to contact the social services and ask for help it is lways there you just have to ask for it.

Get her to speak to her health visitor, they have health visitor auxiliarys, they might be able to help out with some practical tasks, although they tend to help out with problems within the family. In this circumstance they might help out to avoid exhaustion and pnd.
If she has a bit of cash available, a small local ad might bring forward someone with time on their hands who could take the kids out for a walk etc.

Hi, have a word with the health visitor or midwife. Also surestart. If your friend is happy with the Idea the salvation army often have toddler groops. Our local one is wonderful, they are not 'god botherers' and accept you as you are. They often have support networks of mums,aunties and grandmars who will give a few hours help to mums just like this person. I think sure start do similar too. I dont think social services are going to be interested unless there is some sort of neglect sort of issue.
I will not judge but boy is your friend potty or just un lucky??
