We have a three month old daughter - she likes to sit up straight and not lean back when she is sitting - we are thinking of buying her a booster seat but were wondering if a high chair would be a better option - any ideas ?
Or maybe one of the baby seats that will support her back ?

A reclining seat option on a highchair would be better, as you will need one later on anyway :o)

Boosters offer little or no support to the child's back, so I wouldn't get one of those.

We bought one by Graco for little Pippa ~ it was great for when she fell asleep mid-lunch! not dissimilar to this:

Someone gave me one of those seats that clamps to the table or worktop, it has metal frame covered in material, not sure what its called though or where you get them, but they are good for little ones as they are supported. I used it a lot and even took it on holiday. This type doesnt last them very long though.
After that i found a really good booster seat at an NCT sale. It is like a high chair, plastic and has its own tray but can also be used against a table without tray so it lasts until they are much older. It can be folded to take away too. Its made by Safety 1st.
If your daughter is not sitting up alone yet then i dont think you'd be able to use this or highchair just yet. Personally i dont think you need a highchair at all. They take up a lot of space and are a nightmare to clean!

In my humble opinion this is a piece of kit not to be missed.
I had one and it was great. It reclines so if you do want the child to tip slightly back you can. Useful when weaning (trust me). Also useful to tip back when learning to drink and hold bottles/cups themselvs. Will sit upright also. I agree with aims and a high chair is bulky to have out and store. We simply protected the material on our dining chair and strapped the booster on then tucked the chair in and you never really noticed the thing. You can use it on the floor too. Than you just remove the tray and tuck under the table for the toddlers. We used ours for 2 children and it went to my friend who put her high chair away and would not be without it. If you ae meaning a seat just to sit in not feed just to assist sitting I reckon a bumbo is great.
I agree with Winnie about the Bumbo. Baby Picky has used his for a few months now and loves it. He sits in it whilst playing with his toys, eating his baby rice, out in the garden, everything. It's also light enough to take around with you. So long as baby can hold theior own head up, this is brilliant. We wouldn't be without ours!

Oh wow...those weren't around 6 years ago! they are fab :o)

I had one of those bouncy chairs and a car seat, but they weren't a patch on the bumbo.
Not sure i agree with putting little ones in a seat when playing etc i've never used a bumbo but i've seen them and it seems to me they would restrict them. Babies who can almost sit up alone can just sit on the floor with cushions around them. They learn to support themselves quickly then and when they can sit alone i think they need to have the freedom to move around and get what they want and where they want!
In my experience and that of the 5 friends I have who have recently had babies, there is no restriction with the bumbo. It gives baby more confidence with sitting up by themselves and saves the danger of toppling over constantly with the cushions. No one with half a brain would leave a baby in it constantly to play, it's just another option. It gives baby Picky the confidence to reach out for toys without falling, and now he can sit up by himself (at 5 and a bit months) he still likes it. As you haven't tried one aims1202, you wouldn't know the advantages of them. Baby Picky sits up with cushions round him, in his bumbo, on the bed, on the floor, in his highchair (would high chairs also be too restrictive in your opinion? Maybe stopping baby getting what they want when they want?) Sorry for the rant but I don't think you can generalise with babies, different things work for different people, it was just another option.
